Motivation – A Myth

Share post:

All of us have heard this line at some point in our lives ‘Motivation is the key to success’. All of us believed that yes, ultimately if we are motivated then we are eager to fulfill our goals and climb the ladder of success and become a highly successful individual.

Success is different for each of us, for some getting a job is success, for some earning tons of money is success and for some inner peace and achieving a happy life with fulfilled goals is success. This is a different debate but the most important thing here is which path makes us reach success.

Is it being motivated to do something, or is it being disciplined and consistent about a particular goal, and having a set mindset that these are the various things that I want to achieve?

Motivation has two sources intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the motivation that comes from inside of an individual. Extrinsic motivation is the motivation that comes from outside sources like social media, parents, teachers, relatives.

True motivation comes from inside, most of us focus upon extrinsic motivation rather than intrinsic motivation which is why we end up in a loop of getting motivated for a few hours and then again end up procrastinating the work.

Intrinsic motivation is the true source of motivation, it keeps you humble to the ground and also makes you end up being consistent and determined to your work all the time. Being consistent throughout plays a major role in completion of tasks.

So, in a true sense motivation is a myth. on the other hand Discipline, consistency, determination is what keeps us true to our work and never let us be inconsistent and untruthful towards our work.

Goal plays a major role here, if we stick to our goals and our goals are strong enough that we can sacrifice anything and everything to achieve those goals then only it is possible for us to be consistent enough and reach our goals, so that we can lead a successful life.
