David Warner has left the door open for a temporary return to international cricket just to play in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Warner had recently finished his international career following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup last month.

In a glittering international career where he has smashed 49 tons, the only major trophy missing from Warner’s cabinet is the Champions Trophy. He has won the ODI World Cup twice, the T20 World Cup in 2021 and the WTC last year. Even though he had made his ODI debut in January 2009, Warner was not a part of the Australia squad that won the Champions Trophy in South Africa later that year.

The 37-year-old had quit ODIs last year after Australia’s World Cup win in India and retired from Test cricket during the home summer, playing his final Test against Pakistan at his home ground, SCG.

The opener had already revealed earlier that he would be open to returning to the national set-up just to feature in the Champions Trophy next year, scheduled to be held in Pakistan. In a social media post, the left-hander reiterated his wish to play in the tournament ‘if selected’, considering he will continue to play franchise cricket around the world.

“It’s been an unbelievable experience to play at the highest level for such a long period,” Warner wrote. “Australia was my team. The majority of my career was at the international level. It’s been an honour to be able to do this. 100+ games in all formats is my highlight.

“For all the cricket fans out there, I truly hope I have entertained you and changed cricket, especially tests, in a way where we scored a bit faster than others. I will continue to play franchise cricket for a while, and I am also open to playing for Aus [Australia] in the Champions trophy if selected,” he further added.
